Namibia

Stark and desolate, Namibia is a land of raw and otherworldly beauty

A kaleidoscope of lunar-like ochre dunes cascading into wild seas, salt-cracked pans dotted with petrified trees, dusty Mad Max roads, and never-ending horizons —Namibia is indeed the land that “God made in Anger” and certainly not for the faint of heart. But the country mesmerizes with its desert landscapes, endless space, and battle-tested wildlife. The country will leave you mentally and physically exhausted, sunbaked, and sandy, but forever enchanted.

Namibia feels like a remote outpost — vast (think 1.5 times the size of France), rugged, and sparsely populated. Road trips require patience, spare tires, and a reliable GPS to plot out hard-to-find gas stations and obscure desert coordinates.

With easy access to campsites, self-drive and 4x4 family camper-van tours are increasingly popular and offer plenty of Wild West excitement. Namibia offers fewer high-end boutique stays and luxury safaris than its neighbors, but scratch the surface, and you’ll find plenty of design-worthy eco-forward lodgings and sustainably-focused tours. We showcase our favorite lodges, bush camps, and experiences below, checking all the right boxes for sustainability, immersion, and bewildering beauty.

Exploring Namibia through our curated lens.

Sustainability spotlight.

Namibia stands as a beacon of progress in the realm of sustainable tourism, defying any doubts about its global standing as a conservation leader. Notably, it ranks among the select few nations worldwide that have enshrined land conservation and the safeguarding of natural resources within their constitution. The landscape is rich with success stories that seamlessly interweave conservation, tourism, and local development, often with active participation from local communities in advancing sustainable tourism initiatives.

Many of our curated stays in Namibia are located on conservancies developed with local communities where lease concessions allow for their direct participation in the hospitality business.
