Nest at Sossus

Greater Sossusvlei & NamibRand, Namibia

Exclusive-use weaver nest-inspired villas in the heart of the Namib Tsaris Conservancy

The unique, luxurious “nest” is tucked away in a lush valley on the private Namib Tsaris Conservancy, backing up against the Namib Desert. The surrounding valley is a true desert oasis boasting seasonal natural water pools and falls, a magnet for the exceptional game moving through the area. A floodlit waterhole provides varied desert wildlife viewing as well as incredible birding.

The handiwork of social weaver birds inspires the unique nest-like shape of the exclusive-use villas. Cocoons of comfort and style, ensuite bedrooms are covered in reeds collected from the Zambezi River. A butler and gourmet chef are on hand to ensure all your needs are met.

“It was an organic process. We built everything on-site using local artisans and materials in the traditional style of the area. Building off the grid was both a difficulty and a blessing.”

—Designer, Porky Hefer

the look.

A remote (and exclusive) design-led off-grid hideaway sprinkled with artsy pod-like furniture. Bold and seductive decor, earthy hues, wood-and-metal furniture, all neatly packed into steel and thatched nest-like structures. Ensuite bedrooms are covered in reeds collected from the Zambezi River and look out on a desert landscape chock full of wildlife, waterfalls, and natural pools.

Eco-design

South African designer Porky Hefer designed the nest-like structures to resemble the sociable weaver nests built with locally sourced materials and blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings. All furnishings are crafted from eco-friendly materials, including sustainably harvested reeds.

Conservation-focused

Founded by conservationist Swen Bachran, the reserve surrounding the guesthouse was rehabilitated and replenished with wildlife, including antelopes, zebras, giraffes, and leopards, and even plans to reintroduce the endangered black rhino.

Community-driven

The design and intention of the Nest are to engage the local community as part of the larger weaver-nest community concept.

Waste, water, and energy management

100% off-grid operating water and electricity. Heavy reliance on natural cross-ventilation for cooling.
