A place where the old and the new, the real and surreal, all come together

Georgia is a place where the old and the new, the real and surreal, all come together in a singular manner — in its art, streets, politics, and way of life. Jagged snow-capped mountains bristle with medieval stone towers standing watch over a kaleidoscope of tangled vineyards, pine-forested hillsides, and ancient fairytale villages.

Georgia is brimming with whimsy, warmth, and magic, and yet, despite its Old-World charm, the country buzzes with newfound vigor and vitality, having long since shed its Soviet shackles in a creative renaissance. And nowhere is this newfound energy more on display than in Tbilisi, the country's beating heart and cultural hub, brimming with industrial-chic hotels, hip co-working spaces, urban-style cafes, edgy art galleries, and a unique hole-in-the-wall marionette theater.

Add in its delicious cuisine, warm hospitality, and endearing traditions, and you'll no doubt fall under Georgia’s spell. There are plenty of affordable Airbnbs, guesthouses, and hotels in most of the country’s larger cities, but only a handful are design-led with that sustainable sensibility we love. The Offbeat Goat collection showcases a few sustainable boutique hotels, a vineyard retreat, and a handful of back-to-nature mountain retreats in various parts of the country, including Kakheti, Kazbegi, Svaneti, Tusheti, Kazbegi, Racha, and Lagodekhi.

Exploring Georgia through our curated lens

Sustainability Spotlight.

Sustainable tourism is still relatively new but offers much potential in Georgia, given its pristine wildlife-filled nature reserves, staggeringly diverse ecosystems, and abundance of savvy social entrepreneurs eagerly tapping into the responsible tourism space. A handful of high-end design-led hotels are increasingly going the extra eco-mile, prioritizing low-impact and locally sourced eco-friendly materials where possible and actively contributing to the revitalisation of their communities.

And the country is teeming with locally run guesthouses, farm stays, and rural tourism initiatives. Georgia even offers innovative booking platforms that encourage overnights in farm stays or homestays, connecting travelers to the country's ancient winemaking, culinary, and tea-making traditions. There are also numerous eco-tourism initiatives focused on trail-marking, improving mountain hut systems, and building overall awareness of the country's bio-cultural diversity.
