Whereas Svaneti boasts the quintessential Alpine experience with snowy peaks, glaciers, and ancient mountain villages, Tusheti offers a beauty that is raw and utterly unspoiled. Think undulating valleys, alpine meadows, and forested hillsides punctuated with tiny stone villages and old stone watchtowers looking out over the rugged mountains beyond.

Venture out solo or with a guide on loop treks that pass through ancient villages, mountain passes, and along the border with Chechnya (take your passport as you will need to clear customs along some legs of the journey).
Saddle up and grab a horse (or packhorse) to take you along the many mountain trails (locals are always offering their horses for various treks).
Visit the town of Omalo and explore Keselo Fortress. The majority of guesthouses use the power provided by solar panels, which means that sometimes they run out of hot water. And don’t miss checking out the town of Shatili in the Khevsureti area (an overnight is possible, but do not expect luxury).
