Dune Camp
NamibRand, Namibia
Namibia / Greater Sossusvlei & NamibRand / Wolwedans Dune Camp
A sanctuary of remote stylish desert dune camps and lodges placing sustainability at the heart of the experience
Situated in the heart of the NamibRand Nature Reserve, Wolwedans Dunes Lodge perches on the edge of a high dune plateau. Striking the perfect balance between a tented camp and a permanent lodge, it offers panoramic views of the magnificent surrounding landscape. The lodge's beautiful A-shaped tents feature comfortable beds, ensuite bathrooms, and spacious verandas.
Embark on nature drives and walking safaris from the camp, or opt for an aerial perspective by taking a flight over the reserve in a small plane or hot-air balloon. Relish picnics in the wild, savor sundowners on the dunes or the deck, and indulge in exquisite, romantic candlelit dinners. Transport yourself into a setting reminiscent of a scene from Out of Africa.
“At Wolwedans, we have taken pause to rethink how tourism works, who it works for, and how its success is defined. The resulting strategy will be brought to life through creating a practical framework for building more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism/ conservation economies..”

the look.
Exuding a safari-chic vibe, the camp consists of a collection of down-to-earth canvas and pole tents on wooden platforms that look out on the desert beyond. Simple yet refined, each tent is tastefully crafted, boasting comfortable beds, ensuite bathrooms, and spacious verandas that overlook the ochre-orange dunes, desert grasslands, and the Losberg mountains beyond. An extra delight are the water-filled silos adorning each veranda.

Relax around communal campfires (and gourmet dinners) and share the day’s adventures with fellow travelers.
access to Sossusvlei
Head out to Dune 45 at sunrise (it pays off to get to the part entrance early before the crowds).
walking safaris
Join a walking safari and scope out the “Desert 5”: oryx, springbok, kudu, zebra, and, of course, the tok-tokkie beetle. Discover the mysterious fairy circles of the Namib. These are strange circles in the sprawling grasslands of the Namib Desert that remain a mystery to this day. You can even buy and reserve a fairy circle with donations going to NamibRand’s conservation efforts.
