Barefoot-chic jungle retreat of thatch-roofed cabanas lining the pristine Pacific coastline
This hippy-chic haven is the perfect setting for a soulful retreat, nestled amidst the jungled hillsides gazing out at the boundless Pacific Ocean. Owners Matt Dickenson (“Dickie”) and Dave Grossman welcome their guests with open arms into their boho-chic "village" of like-minded travelers seeking a deeper connection with nature and respite from everyday life.
Designed to blend harmoniously into the tropical landscape, each shaggily thatched casita oozes character with brushed concrete floors, bleached cottons, and up-cycled wooden furniture completing the stripped-back, bohemian feel. Howling monkeys, colorful macaws, and the occasional creepy crawlies are all part of the backdrop while enjoying the slow life at Maderas.
“Inspired by the natural world around us, we have endeavored to be as responsible and environmentally sensitive in the operations of the Village as possible.”

the look.
Simple but stylish palapa-thatched cabanas offer open-air living with a beachy boho decor; floor-to-ceiling screen walls frame the surrounding sea and jungle views. Each bungalow and communal space boasts a thoughtfully crafted design that seamlessly blends rustic charm with minimalist aesthetics. A perfect place to press pause, detox, and slow down.
the experience.
yoga
Spice up your down dog, holding poses on an open-air deck surrounded by the cacophony of howling monkeys, wild bird calls, and waves crashing in the distance.
surfing mecca
Grab a surfboard and ride the waves — plenty of surfer dudes ready to assist if needed. Bored surfing waves? Head out on a deep-sea fishing excursion, snorkeling trip, or better yet, a romantic sunset cruise for two. Or join a long and arduous trek up one of the nearby volcanoes. Tours can be organized.
community
Mingle with like-minded guests (not for nothing, it’s been dubbed “a hipster think tank”), and enjoy fabulous farm-fresh family-style meals.
chill + detox
Lounge the day away in a hammock overlooking the post-card-perfect beaches.
the impact.
This eco-forward hotel checks all the right boxes in sustainable hospitality practices with its strong community-centric approach, eco-friendly design, and waste management practices.
Eco-design
Over 90% of the wood was sourced from naturally fallen hurricane wood (minimizing the impact on surrounding forests); Roofs were made from palm leaves (regenerating to full size in 3-4 months after being cut) and eucalyptus beams (with an estimated 5-6 year regrow to a harvestable size).
Community-centric
Established a microfinance fund that provides local workers and employees access to micro-loans. Maderas regularly engages the local community in eco-inspired initiatives.
Culinary sustainability
Ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally.
Waste, water, and energy management
Maderas subscribes to a sustainable, eco-friendly philosophy of minimizing waste, recycling, and reusing where possible. Organic and perishable waste is composted, glass is recycled, and plastic is kept to a minimum. The greywater septic system produces recycled water through filtration systems. The hotel is off-grid, using power from non-renewable sources (wind turbines produce 25% of their energy).
