Morgan’s Rock

San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua

Nicaragua / San Juan del Sur / Morgan’s Rock Ecolodge & Hacienda

A fusion of treetop luxury and sustainability in Nicaragua’s mecca of surfing, San Juan del Sur

If you’re looking to live out a Swiss Family Robinson fantasy, this drool-worthy eco-lodge hugging the emerald coasts of San Juan del Sur might be your ticket. Flanked by lush jungle and creamy sand beaches, the setting is as stunning as the treetop interiors combining impeccable taste with a deliciously chill, laid-back vibe. Rooms are tastefully decorated with handcrafted furniture, king-sized beds encased in mosquito nets, and floor-to-ceiling screened walls creating a continuous dialogue between inside and out.

And Morgan’s Rock has undoubtedly earned its sustainable badge thanks to its low-impact design blending into the surroundings, farm-to-table dishes, and dogged commitment to conserving both environment and the local community.

“Playing with time. Working with nature.”

the look.

Tropical palapa-thatched casitas are sensitively designed to blend into the landscape: rustic-luxe rooms decked out in neutral tones, copper fixtures, tiled floors, polished stone sinks, and sustainably sourced warm-colored woods. Furnishing is simple but tasteful, with king-sized beds cloaked in mosquito nets, handcrafted furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows blurring the lines between inside and out.

the impact.

This eco-forward hotel checks all the right boxes in sustainable hospitality with its strong community-centric approach, eco-friendly design, and conservation focus.

Eco-design

Over 90% of the wood was sourced from naturally fallen hurricane wood (minimizing the impact on surrounding forests); Roofs were made from palm leaves (regenerating to full size in 3-4 months after being cut) and eucalyptus beams (with an estimated 5-6 year regrow to a harvestable size).

Conservation-driven

Established on a massive private nature reserve, the hotel prides itself on its land conservation and wildlife protection credentials. Committed to marine turtle conservation, anti-poaching, and tree planting and reforestation initiatives.

Community-centric

95% of its workforce is local, and the hotel is committed to incorporating local artwork and fixtures in its interior design.

Culinary sustainability

Sources all ingredients onsite or from local Rainforest Alliance-approved farms.

Waste, water, and energy management

Solar panels are used to heat bathwater.
