Garonga Safari Camp

Greater Kruger, South Africa

South Africa / Greater Kruger / Garonga Safari Camp

An intimate African bush getaway set in the Makalali Conservancy and Drakensberg mountains

Nestled in a secluded nook of the grassy Makalali Reserve surrounded by acacia trees, Garonga’s collection of lavish canvas tents guarantees an Out of Africa experience on the fringes of Kruger National Park. Perched overlooking a dry river bed, the thatch-roofed communal lodge sits at the heart of the camp, offering a stylish pool with ample hang-out space.

Connected by tiny paths, the individual tent camps are propped up on wooden platforms and beautifully positioned to take in the expansive views while shaded by oversized trees. So slink into hammocks and watch the world pass you by. And don't be surprised by the occasional passerby, trunk, and all — true safari bliss in the heart of the African bush.

“At Garonga Safari Camp our ‘safari for the soul’ ethos is woven throughout all of our luxury safari camps.”

the look.

Each tented structure is constructed with plastered walls and canvas siding, swathed in soft neutral tones, natural materials, and African accents. King-sized beds covered in crisp white linens sit atop weathered wood floors, adorned with colorful kilim rugs, solid wood furniture, and oversized wildlife photos.

Designed to bring the outside in, each tent has its own private verandah with comfy wicker chairs and oversized hammocks overlooking the African bush.

And for those seeking a sleepout experience under the stars, Garonga offers a 4-poster bed perched atop an elevated deck deep in the heart of the bush.
