Lekkerwater Beach Lodge

De Hoop Nature Reserve, South Africa

A minimal footprint beach getaway of stilted wooden pods perched high above a dramatic and pristine coastline

Perched above a dramatic and pristine coastline, this minimal footprint getaway of stilted wooden pods is completely off-the-grid, with sustainability, eco-design, and environmental sensitivity fully baked in. And this low footprint stay is part of Natural Selection Travel’s collection of conservation-led destinations and is fully committed to sustainability practices.

Situated in a protected marine reserve surrounded by ocean views, Lekkerwater (delicious water) certainly lives up to its name. And water is not the only thing delicious at Lekkerwater. This swanky bolthole packs a punch with its cool eco-design, dramatic views, and nature-kissed sophistication—a picture-perfect communion with nature.

“Natural Selection says it believes that everything should be ‘clean and green,’ and Lekkerwater has been designed with that concept in mind.”

—Natural Selection Travel (Lekkerwater is a Natural Selection property)

the look.

This stylish outpost is all about conscious luxury, nestled in the windswept dunes of a protected marine reserve. Tastefully designed wood-boxed dwellings are decked out with bamboo ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows to let the outside in. Bathed in muted blues and creamy whites, spaces ooze a subdued beach-chic vibe. Soothing and tranquil so as not to distract from the breathtaking drop-dead gorgeous views.

the experience.

marine wildlife

Join a coastal fynbos or nature walk (no Big 5 but plenty of eland antelopes, bontebok, zebras, and an endless assortment of birds). Get lost in the fascinating world of tidal pools, anemones, and marine life on guided marine walks. Or brave the cold waters and snorkel in protected rock pools near the lodge (gear is available).

beach picnics

Find that perfect protected dune for an elaborate beach picnic (basket and blanket provided).

design + views

Marvel at Lekkerwater’s low-impact design. And don’t miss ultra-decadent sundowners on the first-floor rooftop terrace.
