 Greece / Serifos, Cycladic Islands

Few islands match Serifos’ picture-postcard perfection

For a tiny barren outcrop, Serifos packs a punch with its austere mountains, fertile green valleys, and unspoiled beaches. And with its picturesque chora of whitewashed villages chiseled into sun-tipped mountains, few islands match Serifos’ picture-postcard perfection. Throw in a lively town-square vibe bustling with music, sidewalk cafes, and an artsy cosmopolitan crowd, and it has all the makings of the ideal Cycladic pit-stop.

The Offbeat Goat collection spotlights one of our favorite eco-design hotel recognized for its sustainable sensibility.

Stays in Serifos

the highlights.

Rummage through the Chora's many hole-in-the-wall boutiques selling local ceramics, handwoven baskets, and plenty of delightful souvenirs to take home.

Meander through the labyrinth of winding streets and small-town square, and don’t miss climbing to the top for a spectacular sunset at Grias Castle.

Hike down the old mining trail by Megalo Livadi, a bay in the southwestern part of the island.

Chill out at Kalo Ampeli Beach, a quiet beach consisting of 4 bays with a mix of golden sand and pebbly areas — Koutalas, Malliadiko, Dyo Gialoudia, and Kalo Ampeli.

Check out the Archeological Museum of Serifos (a small museum right in Megalo Livadi).

Venture out to an organic winery (Chrysoloras Winery) to savor island bio-wines.

Spend the evenings playing tavoli (backgammon) while dining al fresco in the Chora's Pano Piatsa square. Our favorites include Stratos, Barbarossa, and the Pano Piazza Cafe & Bar.
