 Greece / Sifnos, Cycladic Islands

Less showy and dramatic than some of its neighbors

Sifnos offers a perfect blend of understated elegance with a laid-back vibe against a stunning backdrop of hilly landscapes, sheltered white-sand beaches, and sugar-cubed houses. A tad less showy and dramatic than some of its neighbors, Sifnos is a well-kept secret with Cycladic Island snobs awash in family-friendly beaches, quirky local villages, and zigzagging goat paths traversing the island.

The Offbeat Goat’s collection spotlights one of our favorite eco-forward boutique hotels in the Cycladic Islands.

the highlights.

Poke around the charming ceramics store (Atsonios Handmade Ceramics), where the Atsonios family fires pottery and creates beautiful terracotta pots, following the craft and tradition of their ancestors. And be sure to book a private workshop tour.

Check out our favorite fish taverna on the island, Omega 3 (word has it, the place is a favorite of Tom Hanks, as well).

Explore the charming town of Artemonas and pop into the small family-run sweet shop, Theodorou's Sweet Shop (the heavenly almond cookies rolled in sugar are to die for).

Enjoy an intimate inner-courtyard dinner at Mosaico Cafe Restaurant (a family-run ouzeri in Artemonis) or meals at Drakakis Cafe (an old-time cafe in Apollonia), Exambela (a beachy taverna), or Botzi 93 (a charming late-night bar in Apollonia).
