The Other Side

Eleuthera, Bahamas

Eleuthera/The Other Side

Barefoot luxury and a touch of castaway chic

There’s off-grid, and then there’s The Other Side—a place where the world quiets, time slows, and barefoot is the only dress code that matters. Perched between land and sea, The Other Side isn’t just a hotel—it’s a way of being. Luxury is woven into the details: beachfront canvas-tented hideaways with billowing drapes, breezy beach “shacks” and “sheds” perched high above the swaying palms, and design choices that feel intentional without trying too hard.

This is a place for those who appreciate the poetry in simplicity—the hush of waves against the shore, candlelit dinners stretching into the night, half finished chess games, and weathered books left behind by wanderers before you. The Other Side lingers in the mind long after the suitcases are unpacked, an invitation to return to a different pace of life.

“For those that want to enjoy a simple rustic getaway with a little touch of glamour on it's own private beach. A place to unplug but not completely if you don't want to...”

— The Other Side Hotel

the look.

Understated elegance meets Bahamian ease at The Other Side. Think flowing canvas, bleached hardwood floors, and a color palette pulled straight from the surrounding landscape—sand-washed neutrals, deep ocean blues, and lush greens. The aesthetic is effortless yet deeply considered: locally crafted furnishings, vintage birdcages, colorful Tintin art, old chess sets, and handcrafted details that create a sense of place without feeling staged. The balance between refinement and the elements is intentional—private outdoor showers that let you rinse off under the open sky, beds draped in crisp white linens, and open-air living spaces where the breeze drifts through at its own leisurely pace.

The safari-meets-Bahamas beachfront tents, with their hardwood floors and gauzy drapes, feel like they belong to an era of slow travel, yet come with all the modern comforts: air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and Malin + Goetz toiletries. The hilltop shacks and sheds offer a touch more privacy with sweeping sea views from breezy decks.

Communal spaces—dining, lounging, and a bar stocked with enough rum to make a sailor swoon—are tucked beneath white tents, where mismatched antiques and flickering lanterns lend a touch of well-worn charm. Effortless, elemental, and designed for those who find luxury in the little things, The Other Side is a masterclass in relaxed sophistication.

the experience.

beach vibes

Wake to the sound of the tide gently lapping at your doorstep (or, in the case of the hilltop shacks, the view stretching endlessly beyond it).

beach + pool + easy access to Harbour Island

Paddle out at sunrise, snorkel through Eleuthera’s crystalline waters, or simply laze by the saltwater pool with a cocktail in hand. Fancy a jaunt to Harbour Island? Hop on the complimentary boat shuttle for an evening of buzzy restaurants and barefoot dancing.

communal meals

Lunch is fresh, farm-to-table, and best enjoyed with toes in the sand. Come nightfall, sip a sundowner at the honesty bar before indulging in a communal dinner that’s equal parts gourmet and relaxed island affair. And for a change, savor delicious feasts at The Farm, only a 5 minute walk away.

the impact.

Ben Simmons, a Bahamian native, and his partner Charlie Phelan have quietly created something special here. More than just a hotel, The Other Side is a deeply personal vision—one rooted in sustainability, aesthetics, and a genuine commitment to Eleuthera. Ben has poured his heart into developing the property in a way that treads lightly, ensuring that both the island and its visitors thrive.

eco-design

The hotel concept is based on minimal impact. In fact, all the beachside luxury tents are disassembled during hurricane season.
