Most travelers just drive through to get from Cape Town to Johannesburg (or vice-versa), but there are plenty of offbeat places to explore with a full tank of gas and a passion for adventure and wide-open roads.

Explore the many family vineyards sprinkled around Little Karoo. The Boplaas, situated in Calitzdorp, is operated by the Nel Family and is both a winery and a bio-diversity initiative. Part of the profits are donated to elephant conservation and research.
