South Africa / Karoo

Sparsely populated semi-arid desert, stark mountains, and open plains

With large swathes of sparsely populated semi-arid desert, stark mountains, and open plains, Karoo is often regarded as the last frontier of South Africa. Most travelers just drive through to get from Cape Town to Johannesburg (or vice-versa), but there are plenty of offbeat places to explore with a full tank of gas and a passion for adventure and wide-open roads.

Our collection includes a charming farmhouse in the town of Montague (officially in the Little Karoo region) and a charming lodge in the privately-owned Samara Reserve.
