 Greece / Santorini, Cycladic Islands

Too iconic to ignore, too beautiful to resist.

Yes, it’s touristy—but some places earn their fame, and Santorini is one you simply can’t skip. Some places take the scenic route to impress, but this island grabs the high ground and never lets go. From the moment you step onto a terrace overlooking the caldera, it feels otherworldly—like the earth cracked open just to create this view. Carved by a volcanic eruption millennia ago, the island’s crescent shape cradles a vast blue lagoon, its edges bristling with whitewashed buildings clinging to sheer cliffs.

In the summer sun, the contrast is almost blinding—dazzling domes, slashes of blue pools, and the occasional chapel punctuating the sea of white. Santorini is all about vantage points. Oía, perched at the northern tip, is a magnet for camera-wielding crowds and cruise ship day-trippers. Thera, at the island’s heart, is little better. But head just beyond, and quiet corners still exist.

Stays in Santorini

the highlights.

Caldera Boat Trip to Thirassia – Most visitors see Santorini from the cliffs, but a boat to the quiet island of Thirassia flips the perspective. Life here moves at a different pace—think sleepy tavernas, old-school island charm, and a Santorini untouched by time.

The Ancient Thera Hike – High above Kamari, the ruins of Ancient Thera offer sweeping island views and a fascinating glimpse into Santorini’s past. The hike up is steep but worth every step.

Vlychada Beach – A striking, moon-like landscape with sculpted cliffs and volcanic sand, Vlychada is refreshingly uncrowded. The nearby harbor is a great spot for fresh seafood without the tourist markup.

Pyrgos Village – A hilltop labyrinth of whitewashed alleys, Pyrgos offers panoramic views without the tourist crush. Climb to the ruins of Kasteli Castle for a Santorini sunset minus the selfie sticks.
