Eleuthera: 3 favorite stays
An island that is not for everyone…
When an island bumper sticker reads, "Eleuthera, it's not for everyone," we know it's our kind of place. This 110-mile long sliver of an island is known for its powdery beaches, pineapple fields, and off-the-beaten-path vibe with surfing on one side and warm turquoise bathwater on the other. The secluded island of Eleuthera (meaning "freedom" in Greek) is far removed from the cruise ships, luxury resorts, and packed beaches of the Bahamas.
Here you will find endless stretches of untouched beaches, forgotten villages, and grain silos lining the island's main street connecting north with south. Excited to share our collection of stays on this far-flung Caribbean island, that’s not for everyone.
Shorebreak Eco Cottage
The vision behind Shorebreak's eco-cottage design is simple: embrace the nature and purge all the trappings of modern life. The house was designed and built with the intention of having minimal impact on the environment. Completely off-grid (solar panels) and self-sustainable.
ShoreTing Surf Shack
Plucked straight out of a Dwell magazine (literally), this stylish and uber sustainable surf shack instills a sense of awe (o.k. scroll left for its stunning flip side)... And so sensitively designed following Paul Rudolph's principles of simplicity, function and connectivity with nature - a perfect place to press pause. And yet, you won't pause too long with 110 miles of tempting pink and creamy sand, turquoise bath water, and tasty waves big enough to ride.
The Other Side
Our latest island hotel crush takes conscious luxury to a whole different level: A swanky solar-powered gem tucked away in a sleepy turquoise cove just 20 minutes by boat from the glitz and glam of Harbor Island. Think bleached woods and canvas-clad spaces decorated with romantic 4-poster beds, Berber rugs, wrought iron chandeliers, and whimsical accents, including Tin Tin posters and Parisian-chic vintage knickknacks...and all this against a dreamy Blue Lagoon-like backdrop. Owners Ben Simmons and Charlie Phelan are clearly keeping this back-to-nature bolthole (appropriately called "The Other Side") very much under the radar (in fact, as far as I can tell, this one is nowhere to be found on Instagram.
